Here are a few songs for the rest of the summer:

Here’s an album that you should listen through at least once this month:

• The Grand Illusion by Styx  —  This album was Styx’s breakthrough and has gone triple platinum.  It’s packed with some of their greatest hits.  The whole album is like a show of its own.  The title track opens with fanfare and “The Grand Finale” provides an epic close.  In between is a story of illusion, fantasy, and American life.  You might be familiar with “Come Sail Away” and “Fooling Yourself,” but the whole album is worth hearing.  Oh and for those interested, a certain South Park character does a beautiful cover of “Come Sail Away.”

• “Starless and Bible Black” by King Crimson  —  Thank you to James Hageman for the suggestion (from many years back)!  This is an exceptional rock song.

Finally, this is an artist you should explore when you get the chance:

• Buddy Rich  —  The greatest drummer of all time.  If you doubt it, ask the best drummers alive.  Serious drummers look to Buddy as the pinnacle of drumming.  If you ask them about Buddy Rich, they’ll all something along the lines of, “Buddy could do what I do but twice as fast and precisely.”  Buddy Rich belongs in the pantheon of all-time greatest musicians.
