The Nature of Music

I played my first piano piece at the age of four.  Over the years, I sang in choirs, played in bands, acted in plays, and performed a variety of solos.  Yet it wasn’t until the summer of 2016, that I began thinking about the nature music.

While pulling weeds in the hot sun, I had an argument with several of my peers as to whether music was subjective or objective.  I have wondered ever since that heated afternoon whether there is such a thing as “good music.”  This question triggered my contemplation concerning the nature of music.

For some, music is a god.  For others, it is not much more than a nice treat.  Few believe it to be inherently evil, but many believe it can be used for evil intent.  I have rarely held any firm stances on the nature of music, and I do not intend to take many.

The purpose of this blog is to discuss the nature of music and various other forms of entertainment, so that I and others may understand art just a little better.
